Dr. Adams is board certified in Child & Adolescent and General Psychiatry. His areas of expertise include assessment and treatment of Childhood and Adolescent Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Asperger’s Disorder, Childhood ADHD, Adult ADHD, Anxiety and Mood Disorders, Child and Adolescent Bipolar Disorder, Depression, OCD, Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Acute Stress Disorder.

Dr. Adams uses a combination of careful evaluation, supportive and psychodynamic therapy, and psychotropic medication when it is indicated. He is also currently running a therapy group for Adults with Bipolar Disorder at Madison Behavioral DTS.
Dr. Adams has worked in Child and Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry in Northern Alabama since 1999, including past appointments with U.A.B as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member, North Alabama Regional Hospital as its Clinical Director, and as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Riverbend Center for Mental Health and Mountain Lakes Mental Health Center. In addition to working in his private practice, Dr. Adams is currently working with Sequel/TSI, Inc providing treatment for privately funded and also DHR and DYS referred teens in residential treatment centers operated by Sequel/TSI in Northern Alabama.

Dr. Adams is a graduate of Northwestern Medical School (1989). He completed his psychiatric residency and child/adolescent fellowship training at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, and served on active duty with the US Army as a psychiatrist for 10 years before practicing in Northern Alabama. He loves the cultural, culinary, and technological amenities in the Rocket City, as well as the hiking and bass fishing in the Tennessee Valley.
